Don’t have the domain name you want? Now is your chance

Get the right domain for your organisation

We meet a lot of new and small businesses that haven’t managed to get the domain name they wanted, but now may be the chance you have been looking for to get a short and rememberable domain name for your website:

Have you ever wondered what the differences mean at the end of a website’s name? What exactly are .com, .org, .net, and all of those other terms? They are called top-level domains, and in short, it’s how web space is organised by domain registrars. Some top-level domains, such as .gov, and the various country extensions, require proof of authenticity to register. The others are called gTLDs, or generic top-level domains, that anyone can purchase and use.

Beginning in October 2012, ICANN, the international body regulating such issues, announced the opening up of potentially 1,400 new gTLDs from the current 22 available. The release of the new names started with the release of Russian, Chinese, and Arabic strings in October and continued with a few released each week. The application process for new gTLDs ended in April 2013, and ICANN now is working through the many applications to determine which ones will be made available and when.

Among the more exciting new domain names on application to become available for domain registration are .guru, .photography, .tips, and .plumbing. Website owners need to plan now for purchasing second-level registration for these domain names. The second-level registration is what comes before the “dot” in the name. Although ICANN is still finalising decisions, as a website owner you should be prepared to act as soon as they are available, our team will be happy to help assist you with this.

The possibilities are virtually endless for domain registration with catchy, easy-to-remember URLs. For example, someone who writes about dogs would do really well with dogCare.tips as a domain name. Getting potential visitors to remember your web address is a key first step in getting visitors through direct traffic. Plus, the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) possibilities are enormous when you are able to put your site’s most prominent keywords in the URL of your site. Having the keywords there will help you to get better rankings in search engines, which can improve traffic, return visitors, and revenue potential from your site.

As soon as the new gTLDs are available, they will go fast. Get prepared now so that you can snatch them up as soon as they up for purchase, If you would like a more in depth information about the gTLDs that are ready for pre-registration, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team or request a callback with the form in our footer.
